Hotel review: Hyatt Regency Shinjuku

The Hyatt Regency Shinjuku is a highly rated hotel in the heart of Shinjuku, but I was not that impressed with it during my stay despite its reputation.

The Hyatt Regency Shinjuku is located next to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and within walking distance of the downtown Shinjuku area and all of its incredible night life that makes the area so popular with everyone visiting Tokyo.

Location: The location is pretty good but is not exactly in the heart of Shinjuku and the popular spots like Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho. It’s quiet around the area, which is nice, but if you are trying to find the neon lights of Shinjuku, it’s about a 15 minute walk to that part of Shinjuku.

Room: I had a standard room with two twin beds on the 17th floor. The room itself was clean, had no odors, and was overall very pleasant. However, there were little signs of wear and tear throughout the room. Little dings and scuff marks against the wall in the high traffic areas were something to note especially considering the price of the room per night (well over $200 USD a night).

Facilities: Being a Hyatt, the facilities are staff are top notch at this hotel. There are plenty of restaurants, a gym, and conference space throughout the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful when I had issues with broken luggage, working to find a store I could get to before the airport. The restaurants have a range of food, but be prepared to spend a lot of money if you are looking for a meal here. I mean you will drop over $25 USD for a simple sandwich, so just be aware of that (but you should expect it being a Hyatt and all).

Overall the Hyatt Regency Shinjuku is a great hotel and lives up to the name. I thought my room was a little overpriced, but aside from that the facilities, staff, and everything else were top notch.
