Hotel Review: Holiday Inn Express – DeLand, Florida (Solo Traveler Stopover)

As a solo traveler on a road trip across Florida, I wasn’t looking for luxury—just a clean, reliable place to rest my head for the night. The Holiday Inn Express in DeLand fit that need perfectly on a quick trip I took last week. Here is a quick review if you find yourself traveling on the East Coast of Florida.

Check-in was quick and easy, which is exactly what you want after a long day of driving on the Florida roads. The front desk staff was friendly, and parking was free and plentiful—huge bonus when you’re just pulling in for one night. The hotel itself is in a convenient location, right off the main road in Deland (Woodland BLVD) and close to gas stations, restaurants, and even a grocery store (Publix) for a quick stock up.

The room was simple, modern, and most importantly—clean. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well (a must in Florida), and there were plenty of outlets to charge my phone and camera gear. I appreciated the mini fridge and microwave, too—small things that matter when you’re on your own and trying to keep the travel budget in check. They also have all-day coffee available in the lobby which is a nice caffeine boost to push through a long day.

While I didn’t use the pool or gym while I was there, I did take advantage of the free breakfast in the morning. It’s your typical hotel spread—eggs, cereal, toast, and coffee—but it was enough to get me back on the road without an extra stop (and saved a few dollars at the same time).

If you’re a solo traveler like me, just looking for a solid overnight stop, the Holiday Inn Express in DeLand checks all the right boxes: safe, clean, and no hassle. It’s not fancy, but it doesn’t need to be. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
