Doing what feels right

Trying to become a travel blogger or create a small space on the internet to share my travel tips and adventures has been a challenge from the start and I am still trying to find my way in this niche.

Ever since I started this blog over two years ago, it has never become what I wanted it to be. I have tried on and off many times to make it a travel blog, but I was trying to be something I wasn’t, a travel blogger. The idea of traveling for a living, earning money, and exploring the world along the way seemed idealistic, but in reality it isn’t for me. I find myself not getting out enough and over-worrying about the business side of things before even heading out the door for a trip.

My writing and content creation have felt hollow and fake for some time now as well as I have struggled to put thoughts down on “paper”. The posts I write not do not capture my heart of what I want to create and share. Using AI to help write a 500+ word post and throwing some links into it just isn’t me, it doesn’t feel real enough for me.

I fell in love with the idea of being a travel blogger, but hated the reality of what it would take to make it into something and eventually become a business that I could be both proud and grow into something. The work behind the scenes is just not what I want and thus, the blog in its current state isn’t what I want it to be.

So where do I go from here? The answer is, I am not sure. I have toyed around with the idea of focusing on travel photography, but that possesses its owns challenges that I am not sure I am ready to contend with. Do I instead pivot back to this blog and work hard to get it off the ground and permanently this time? Maybe a rebrand or even a fresh start could be the answer but I just don’t know as I sit here thinking about it every day.

I am going to use the holiday break and the new year to come back to this with my resolute answer and determine what makes the best sense for me going into 2025.

Stay tuned and thank you for always reading my posts!

  1. Wait. People make money off travel blogging? Sorry, joking. I would not object to making money off my blog; in fact, I’d welcome it. But I’ve never figured out how to get enough traffic to be able to do it. (I usually get well under ten views a day when I’m not travelling and usually fewer than 30 a day when I am travelling and posting.)

It goes without saying that you should do what feels right for you. Best of luck.

    1. Apparently some do out there but like you, I have no idea how to reach that goal. I’m lucky to hit some of those numbers in a month, so I know the pain of trying to get traffic. I appreciate the kind words and thanks for reading!
