Dublin is a large city and getting around can be daunting at first glance.
Here are some quick tips to help you navigate the capital city of of Ireland.
Walking- Dublin is not as large of a city like Tokyo, making it fairly navigable on foot. Depending on where your hotel is located and where you want to go, a lot of places are within walking distance. You can make your way from the city center to popular places like Temple Bar in just about 10 to 15 minutes.
Just make sure to wear good shoes, watch your step (curbs or cobblestone streets), and look right when crossing the roads.
Uber – Uber works in Dublin just like it does in the US and due to Irish laws, the driver must be a certified driver, which means it will call a cab for you. Having a professional driver is always a nice bonus.
This ability to call a ride is helpful when you are in need of a lift, especially if you are tired after a long day or hauling luggage. A taxi ride from city center to the Dublin Airport is just under 40 USD (not including a tip) so it’s good deal when needed.
Rail and buses – Get the Leap card if you are visiting Dublin and the rail and buses will be at your disposable when getting around the city.
The rail system, called DART, works its away around Dublin and is a convenient way to get around. Buses are also everywhere and very easy to use to get around the city as well. Make sure to study your maps to know when and where to get off as you explore.
There are plenty of ways to make your way around Dublin. Find your destination and then pick the best method to get there. Just always remember to wear the best footwear and bring an umbrella!
