Pubs are a way of life in Dublin. Whether you are looking for a meal (at any time of day), a quick drink, or as a historic landmark to visit, pubs are a must-see while exploring Dublin.
Let’s start with food. If you are looking for a traditional Irish breakfast or perhaps delicious Guinness stew, then pubs are where you need to go after you land in Dublin. Pubs will typically have a solid menu lineup from simple sandwiches to stews and other traditional Irish dishes. Just make sure to either look at the menu before you go in or just ask the pub workers when you enter if they serve food. And be aware of holidays when they won’t be serving food that day (just drinks instead).
If you are looking for a drink on the go, then pubs are a must. Just walk up to the bar, order you drink, pay, and then find a spot to relax. You will either end up standing, sitting on your own at the bar, or getting comfortable with the locals (depending on the pub and location). Drinks are reasonable, with a pint of Guinness coming in around 6 Euros. Be aware though, if you are in Temple Bar area, you will be paying about 9 to 10 Euros, with the price going up in the evening. Be aware of the tourist traps!
Lastly, many of the pubs throughout Dublin are historic sites themselves. For example, The Temple Bar, located in Temple Bar, is one of the most visited and photographed bars in all of Ireland. The Brazen Head is known for being the oldest pub in Ireland (or just Dublin, there is a small debate on it), making it a stop on tours and if you are just looking for a drink. Just be prepared for big crowds and higher prices.
So add the pub experience to your itinerary, it’s a great place no matter what the reason if for the stop or the time of day.
