Pre-travel anxiety

I fly out in just a few days and while my brain is focused on packing and remembering all of those last minute items, one item that is beginning to grow is the pre-travel anxiety.

Anxiety is a real thing. In the past I used to think it was something that would never affect me, but I know I was just lying to myself. The anxiety is real and it can take over no matter how well I plan and prepare for the trip.

I get this way anytime I prepare for a trip (domestic or international). I overthink everything, I have trouble sleeping, and by the time comes to travel it hits hard. I will find myself waking up hours before my alarm clock, going to the restroom time and time again making sure I’m put together (eyes, teeth) and then rechecking my bags over and over again. It’s like a nervous twitch I can’t seem to handle.

The strangest thing is though, once I get to the airport and get moving, the anxiety slips away. It’s like the preparation and excitement about a trip all takeover and put the anxiety to sleep.

Do you get anxious on a trip and then if you do, how do you handle it? I have yet to figure out the best way to deal with it and it’s a frustrating thing to deal with. I just can’t seem to get into vacation mode no matter how planned out I am for a trip.
