Tips for a long road trip

After a long road trip to Miami two weeks ago, I wanted to share a few things that you should do before heading out on a long road trip.

Bring water and snacks – Staying hydrated and keeping your stomach full is important on a long road trip. Pack plenty of waters and easy accessible snacks like fruit, granola, protein bars, etc. Remember, you are driving so easy access is key.

Plan ahead – Study your route. Use Google street view around exits and where lane mergers happen. Know your exit, use that street view and know what the area is supposed to look like and what is around the area. Having this kind of information will give you important information and help build confidence that you know where you are heading.

Be ready to adapt – Construction, accidents, weather, and who knows what else is bound to happen while on the road. You need to know how to not only adapt to the situation but also be able to take a deep breath and not to stress out too much.

Take breaks – You need to take breaks on a long road trip. Find a stop that is a safe and get out and stretch your leg. Not only is stretching good for your health, it also helps your mind back together. If you are stopping at a gas station or restaurant, it gives you a chance to reload on water, gas, and food, which are all key to continuing your journey.

Stay focused – Keep your eyes on the road and pay attention out there. It is easy to get distracted by your podcast, radio, or people in the car, but you need to keep your eyes on the road. A bad driver can ruin it all if you are not careful or something you didn’t expect like road debris can cause a major issue.

Each road trip is different depending on where you are traveling and with, so always take that into consideration before hitting the road.
